Join us to stop Sheriff Labat from transporting our brothers and sisters in Fulton County Jail to facilities in Mississippi and Folkston!
On Wednesday, October 4 at 9am we will protest, then make public comment at the Fulton County Commissioners meeting where they will decide whether or not to move these inmates.
So far in 2023, a shocking 10 inmates have died in the Fulton County Jail. The horrific conditions at the jail shocked the nation when in May of this year, news broke that a young man named Lashawn Thompson had been eaten alive by bedbugs while being held in the jail’s psychiatric wing.
In the midst of this controversy, Sheriff Patrick Labat, who runs this facility, is demanding 2 billion dollars to build another jail. However, a new jail will not end the human rights abuses of racist mass incarceration, it will only expand it! We need funding for schools, hospitals, and jobs, not more prisons.
In the last Fulton County Commissioners Meeting Labat threatened to move inmates from Fulton to facilities in Tutwiler, Mississippi and a private prison in Folkston, Georgia where ICE is currently unjustly incarcerating immigrants.
Most of the inmates inside Fulton County Jail haven’t been convicted of a crime and almost half haven’t even been formally charged. These inmates deserve freedom and due process, not senseless incarceration!
The horrors of jails, prisons and policing in capitalist America can only be ended through by a mass movement. All people must oppose any attacks on incarcerated people and fight to end racist mass incarceration.
